Things you didn't know about the Solo Leveling manga that make it different and worth reading
Many of the best plot twists in Solo Leveling revolve around Sung Jinwoo's discovery of the truths of his world. From the beginning of the series, Jinwoo is granted a strange and mysterious power that he doesn't understand. Discovering this power and what it means for the world at large leads to a lot of unexpected revelations that no one anticipated.
When the main character dies in the second episode, it's certain that the series will be full of surprises and transformations. This is exactly what happens with Solo Leveling. Sung Jinwoo's story revolves around growth in strength, and his rising status in the world puts him in many unexpected situations.
After Sung Jinwoo is nearly killed in the opening chapters of Solo Leveling, everything is engulfed in darkness. Suddenly, from the darkness of death, a mysterious message appears before his eyes.
After accepting the conditions, Sung Jinwoo miraculously wakes up in a hospital bed. Not only is he stunned to be alive, but even his arm and leg, which were severed in his killing, have somehow been reattached. This singular event sets the stage for the main mystery of the series and leads to several additional transformations in the future
The world of hunters and dungeon raids can be ruthless, and no one understands this more than Jinwoo. Being a former 'weakest hunter,' Jinwoo has faced death multiple times, although none were as harrowing as when his life was threatened by another hunter.
Hwang Dongsuk was a Class C hunter who led a group of hunters with a sinister agenda. They would recruit weaker hunters to join them in dungeon raids, then either kill them or leave them to die in order to keep the majority of the raid rewards for themselves. This was a terrifying realization for Jinwoo, although by that time in the story, he had already risen beyond the C ranking.
Jinwoo's power as a player has been mysterious since the moment he began leveling up, but it becomes even more peculiar as time goes on. Things reach their most unsettling peak when the Great Seer Selner tells Jinwoo that there is darkness inside him that even she cannot see.
Later, Cha Haein is informed by Min Byunggu that Jinwoo's power is not what she thinks it is and that it actually resurrects people from death and compels them to submit to him. It turns out that Jinwoo's power is derived from the Shadow Monarch, an ancient being akin to a god created alongside the universe. Although not inherently evil as implied initially, Jinwoo's command over death itself is just as terrifying as Selner believed.
One of the most controversial parts of the series occurs during the Jeju Island raid. When Korea is attacked by incredibly powerful ant-like creatures, Japan agrees to help them eradicate the threat. However, Japan's top hunter, Goto Ryuji, reveals that he participated in the raid only to overcome an S-Rank dungeon and become a nationally recognized hunter.
Because Ryuji was doing it for his own personal reasons, he had no real interest in whether Korea would actually be destroyed by the monsters. What makes this part of the series particularly controversial is the negative light it sheds on the Japanese government. Japan doesn't show genuine concern for helping the Korean people, as the complete destruction of Korea would aid Japan in seizing political power from the country.
Ten years after the gates first appeared, the reality of gates and magical creatures became just another fact of the world that many accepted as a given. What makes the revelation of their origin more shocking.
As Ashborn explains to Jinwoo, the gates were created by the rulers as a means to channel mana into the human world intentionally. They did so because the world couldn't bear the inevitable fight between the rulers and kings that would take place there. Slowly leaking mana into the human world would prompt the awakening of hunters, providing a small portion of humanity with enough power to survive the impending war.
When Jin-Woo's father, Sung Ilhwan, was mentioned for the first time in the series, he had been missing for years. He was a hunter who went on a dungeon raid but never returned.
The revelation that Sung Ilhwan is alive was shocking enough. Until then, his true identity remained a secret for most of the series. It wasn't until a strange person appeared from a gate that the truth about Jin-Woo's father's whereabouts became known. What was even stranger about this new revelation is the fact that his father is referred to as a monster. Whether this is indeed Jinwoo's father or a monster impersonating him at the time is uncertain, and it only adds to the shock of the initial revelation.
Jo Gun-hee was once one of the strongest hunters in the world, although his advanced age made it difficult to control his power. As a result, he never showed up in combat until one of the final arcs of the series, when Frost Monarch's plans finally came to fruition.
What's most surprising about Gun-hee's fight with the Frost Monarch is that the Monarch knows who Gun-hee is, making things even more peculiar. As it turns out, Gun-hee is a vessel for one of the brightest pieces of light, the most powerful enemies of the Monarchs, the rulers.

When the Monarchs were first introduced in Solo Leveling, they were mysterious god-like beings capable of destroying the world multiple times. When the truth about them was revealed to Sung Jinwoo, the truth was more terrifying than anyone could imagine.
As Jinwoo will learn, the Monarchs were actually one of the first beings created by the Absolute Being in the world of Solo Leveling. Desiring control over their fates, they rebelled against the Absolute Being and killed it in cold blood. By killing the Absolute Being, they deemed themselves higher than the god of their world, making them the rulers of the universe.
